Summary
This position is responsible for preparation of sub-assemblies, intermediate products and/or finished commercial product. This position is also responsible for production that meets quality standards, produced on time per requirements, and at an approved cost. Also, to ensure that all Associates are properly trained to effectively, efficiently and safely produce sub-assemblies and final product. This position is actively involved in meeting schedules or resolving problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of this position include the following, although other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for the activities occurring on the Manufacturing floor including spending time on the Manufacturing floor assessing performance, training and operations as the activities occur and ensures that there is sufficient equipment, supplies and materials for the Associates to perform their duties.
- Ensures that the designated area is in compliance with GMP Regulations, area documentation and standard operating procedures are accurate and up to date, and that a readiness for regulatory agency audits exists at all times. Promotes process improvements in the area. Evaluates area procedures and operations to ensure that efficient and effective methods are in place to promote the manufacturing of a quality product. Coordinates efforts between manufacturing and other departments (Facilities, Quality, Materials etc) to achieve objectives.
- Other responsibilities include frequent interaction with subordinates, outside customers and functional peer groups at various management levels. Interaction requires the ability to gain cooperation of others and conducting presentations of technical information concerning specific projects/schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned such as input to annual budget, input into failure investigation, participation on various teams etc. as needed, or as part of the job.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises 10+ employees in the Manufacturing Development. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience
B.S. degree in a life science or technical area or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ prior working experience in a manufacturing environment (Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry) with a high school diploma, or 3-5 years working experience in a laboratory or manufacturing operations with a Bachelors degree in life science or related area. Requires extensive working knowledge of cleanroom environment involving tissue culture work and aseptic line-filling processing. Must be an independent thinker with the ability to plan and execute duties with minimal oversight. Three-five years of solid demonstration of leadership in a senior role. Requires cell culture, aseptic technique and cleanroom management, cleanroon gowning, extensive knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), operation of manufacturing equipment, good writing and verbal communication skills.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Working in a cleanroom environment required. Must be able to lift/push 50lbs. Must clothe in cleanroom gowns to perform duties. Many manipulations required which require good eye/hand coordination. Must have good eye sight in order to inspect cell cultures, sub-assemblies, final packaging etc. Must work with living human cells and various chemicals. Generally, chemicals used are not toxic or extremely dangerous. However, precautions must be taken with all chemicals, solutions and cultures. Due to the nature of Production work overtime and weekend work is a requirement of employment though it may vary depending on the season and production needs of the company.
